Filming the knock-on effects of swine fly in Mexico City Sunday

I was out shooting all day in downtown Mexico City Sunday, trying to get a sense of how the swine flu outbreak is affecting local businesses.

It’s bad. With schools closed, as well as cinemas, theaters and museums, sales for some vendors have dropped by as much as 70%. And it doesn’t look like things are going to get better anytime soon. The usual Monday morning traffic crawl was nowhere to be seen this morning, and I arrived at my office door to door in less than 20 minutes.

About half the people walking around on the streets are using masks, around half are risking it.

For a roundup of the Government reaction to the crisis, you can listen to this BBC Wales morning radio show, who got in touch to ask me about what the situation. You can listen to the program here, my interview is about 10 minutes in.

Dispatch to come.

  1. I have really learned result-oriented things by your web site. One other thing I’d like to say is that often newer computer system os’s have a tendency to allow additional memory to get used, but they also demand more ram simply to operate. If one’s computer can’t handle far more memory and the newest program requires that memory increase, it might be the time to shop for a new Computer system. Thanks

  2. Superb website…

[...]always a big fan of linking to bloggers that I love but don’t get a lot of link love from[...]……

  3. Are bonds the next domino to fall? With 85 trillion dollars tied up in the bond market I certainly hope not but one has only to look at Argentinas spectacular crash in 91 to begin to question our own bond markets vunerability.

  4. Very well written and informative.
