MexicoReporter.com was founded in July 2007 by Deborah Bonello (producer, video journalist), and Ulises Escamilla Haro (producer, fixer).

Editor-in chief, founder – Deborah Bonello

Deborah is currently a senior investigator for InSight Crime, a foundation dedicated to the study of the principal threat to national and citizen security in Latin America and the Caribbean: organized crime.

An award-winning journalist, producer and videographer based in Mexico City, she has worked as a staff video journalist for the Financial Times and the Los Angeles Times. Deborah has also contributed on a freelance basis to broadcasters and newspapers, shooting, producing and editing video news and features. Past clients include the Los Angeles Times, the Economist, Time Magazine, AFP, the Guardian, AlJazeera, PRI The World, Univision’s English-language content stream, the BBC and the Financial Times and others.

Deborah also worked with Oscar-nominated director Debra Granik on the documentary project Stray Dog.

She has been interviewed by the Innovative Individuals blog and Adam Westbrook’s Next Generation Journalist site, as well as Wannabe Hacks.

Foreign Policy magazine listed her as one of the 100 most-influential female Tweeters, and Journalism.co.uk thinks she is one of the top 103 non-male speakers you should invite to your media conference.
